"For the ear tests words, As the palate tastes food. Let us choose for ourselves what is right; Let us know among ourselves what is good (Job 34: 3, 4 NASB)."
The eyes and ears of our soul are exposed to both edifying and negative information every day from many different sources.
For the advancing disciple, his or her daily edification primarily takes place during the time invested in meditating (Psalms 1: 2) on the Word of God. Note that it is during our sleep that our souls process much of the more recent information that we had taken into our souls, be it divine viewpoint (1Cor. 2: 16), human viewpoint, or such things as the latest gossip.
It DOES matter as to what and to whom we listen to on a regular basis (Mark 4: 24), keeping in mind that the fallen Man is naturally (Romans 8: 7) inclined to concur with human viewpoint and to be hostile towards the divine.
Without spiritual discernment, human viewpoint makes sense and divine viewpoint appears foolish (1Cor. 2: 14).
Meditating (not just reading) on the Word of God is necessary if one is to build (1Cor. 3: 12) a Biblically-edified soul structure (Matt. 7: 24 - 27). Ongoing meditation on the Word of God keeps our heart clean and promotes a steadfast spirit (Psalms 51: 10).
"According to the grace of God which was given to me, like a wise master builder I (Paul ) laid a foundation (by proving you with the unadulterated Gospel Message) and another (Biblically qualified pastor-teachers) is building on it (by providing you with accurate Bible Doctrine) - 1Cor. 3: 10 NASB parentheses mine."
Without Biblically-qualified (2Tim. 2: 24) pastors that are able and willing to teach, everyone does his own thing (Judges 21: 25).
"...each man (believer) must be careful how he builds on (the foundation) it (1Cor. 3: 10 NASB parentheses mine).". See Acts 17: 11.
We choose to build our individual soul structures on either the solid foundation of the unadulterated Gospel Message, or something else. On that foundation we choose to use wood, hay, straw (human viewpoint) or silver, gold, and precious stones (accurate Bible Doctrine).
Souls that stand on ""other foundations" are not saved (John 14: 6).
Souls that stand on the foundation of the unadulterated Gospel Message are forever saved (Romans 8: 1/1Cor. 3: 15), but if the saved believer builds his post salvation spiritual life on the wood, hay, and straw of human viewpoint or Man made religion, he will receive NO reward (1Cor. 3: 15). His structure and accompanying deeds burn down (1Cor. 3: 13, 14), leaving only the foundation.
The saved and rewarded born again believer is the one who lays the foundation using the unadulterated Gospel Message, and THEN builds and executes a post salvation spiritual life based on accurate Bible Doctrine.
God creates a place in every soul for spiritual things (Eccl. 3: 11). Every human soul WILL fill this space by acquiring a taste and a desire for God and the things of God, with atheism, or as in most cases, with one of the many religious (Psalms 96: 5) alternatives the world has to offer.
We do NOT come into this world with a desire to feed on the Word of God (Romans 8: 7). It is an acquired taste one develops in response to the post (after) salvation call to discipleship (Luke 9: 23). Some Christians will sample the Word of God, but never acquire a taste or a lasting desire to daily feed on it or to apply it (James 1: 22).
The devil knows how to prepare or make use of a snack or a meal that appeals to the eyes, ears, and taste buds (Gen. 3: 6/Proverbs 23: 31) of the human soul. But like a fisherman's bait, it has a hidden hook within set to capture the one it deceives (Prov. 23: 32).
By design, the food that the devil's table has to offer will ALWAYS have an appealing aroma, taste, or a desired after effect on the body or mind.
But, "...you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons 1Cor. 10: 21NASB.
As in the past (Gal. 3), during the end times, many CHRISTIANS will apostasize and follow doctrines and practices taught and or promoted by demonic (1Tim. 4: 1) influence.
