Pastor Doug Laird retired from a 30 year law enforcement career. His career began in 1969 as a police cadet with the police department in the Town of Cumberland, R.I.. In 1971, he as appointed a special police officer at the age of 18 what still attending Cumberland High School. After graduating from Cumberland High School in 1972, he was appointed to Patrolman in 1973. He graduated from the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy in 1974, and later on from Community College of Rhode Island with Highest Honors. He completed the Police Instructor Course with the FBI and later served as the department's in-service training officer. Pastor Doug was certified as a Senior Chaplain by the International Conference of Police Chaplains. He served full time in Cumberland for the twenty three years, being promoted to the Sergeant and later to the rank of Captain, retiring in 1996. From 1996 to 2001 he served as a law enforcement officer with the Airport Police Department at T. F. Green Airport.
In his private life, he became a life-long private student of the Bible. From the 1980's to 2008, Pastor Doug authored numerous editorials of a spiritual-nature in a local news paper, and hundreds of Bible-based presentations on various web sites.
After twelve years of study with the Robert McLaughlin Bible Ministries, Pastor Doug Laird was ordained to do the work of a pastor-teacher at the
New England Bible Conference, sponsored by the Grace Bible Church of Somerset, MA. Shortly after being ordained, Pastor Doug established his pulpit on the Internet. See Why An Internet Pulpit? for more details).
Pastor Doug Laird is a cancer survivor, but lives with disabling conditions associated with diabetes. He is married to Karlene M.
(Fruzenski) Laird, has three adult children and two grandchildren. Pastor Doug is a life-long resident of Cumberland, RI.
